Spurs wanted NBA to punish Barbosa
Yes, the Spurs saw it too.The play that occured with 1:47 left in the third quarter in which Phoenix guard Leandro Barbosa appeared to throw a punch at Manu Ginobili’s face.After going for a loose ball, Ginobili and Barbosa fell to the floor and while the video capture below is not as clear, tv replays showed Barbosa directing a punch at Ginobili’s face.
Ginobili got up from the floor and looked at officials in an incredulous manner since a foul was called on Shaquille O’Neal, but not Barbosa.
The NBA league office said they had reviewed the tape, but determined that Barbosa’s actions did not warrant disciplinary measures.
Spurs fans are up in arms and discussing the league’s decision in the fan forums.
KSAT-TV in San Antonio reported that Spurs officials contacted the league to complain about Barbosa hitting Ginobili in the face with an open hand, then slamming his head on the court.
Spurs officials would not officially comment.
