Gang Green Get Their Man
Brett Favre will be wearing another shade of green to end his career. Favre will try and lead the New York Jets to their first Super Bowl since 1969. He is the biggest named QB they have had since Namath. Favre brings the same swagger and confidence that Broadway Joe exuded.
I give the Jets a lot of credit. GM Mike Tannenbaum and Owner Woody Johnson spent a lot of money in the off season to improve the team. In the end it could back fire, but the Jets organization put forth the effort to win and win big. Eric Mangini has never had to deal with a personality like Brett Favre. This season could come down to how the Jets Head Coach is able to handle the circus surrounding his team.
The Brett Favre trade made too much sense for New York to pass on. If Jonathan Vilma hits a certain percentage of plays they acquire a 2nd round pick from the Saints and at worse a 4th round pick. They can receive an additional draft pick from the Broncos if Dewayne Robertson takes part in a percentage of snaps. To compete with the Patriots you need to be able to put points on the board. Favre is a threat in the passing game and will open up holes for Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. Look for rookie Dustin Keller to be a real factor in the offense.
I have been very critical of Favre for the past 2 years. He handled the situation wrong and ended up somewhere that he originally did not want to be. He forced his way out of a place where he was beloved.
