Matt Leinart has performed on the big stage year in and year out at USC.
Lineart is being asked to perform on a more consistent basis, and NOW, finds himself in the middle of open competition for the starting job at quarterback.
In my mind, Kurt Warner has forced this quarterback competition through his great practices at training camp in Flagstaff.
Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt, had stated back in ealy January, that Leinart is the teams starter. Allot of us, myself included, did not agree with this decision, especially with Warner having one of his better seasons in over 5 years. He led this team to a 5-3 second half of the season, and guided the team to an 8-8 record. Warner did this without much of a running game. That in itself tells you have he can “matriculate” the ball down the field effectively with his savy and years of experience.
ALL of this competition is good for Lineart. We will now see what type of resolve and fighting spirit he has. I truly feel this is a great test for Lineart, to see if he can handle the physical and mental duress that comes with being a starting QB in the NFL, especially when he’s being pushed by a former NFL Most Valuable Player, who to me, seems to be reborn on the football field.
Remember to always keep your head down and follow through, and know that anything past the ladies tees is a bonus….
