Day 1 - Super Bowl Week for Roc Showroom Super Sunday at Casino Arizona…
Jan 28

My first day EVER at a Super Bowl media center was an absolute blast.

I started off by picking up my credential prior to going into the media center at the Phoenix Convention Center. As I’m waiting around I run into ESPN’s John Clayton, and Sal Palantonio, both at the same time. I introduced myself and thanked them both for coming on with Roc and I over the last three and a half years. We talked a little football and the weather, both were very nice and cordial. Good to catch up with them now before the week picks up steam.

I’m also doing daily Media Center updates for NBC/ KPNX CH 12. It’s called Dan’s Daily Radio Row Report. I know, kind of cheese, but I did not make it up. I had a chance to talk about ALL that is the madness of the National Sports TV and Radio shows.

Jim Rome, Mike and the Mad Dog, Tim Brando of Sporting News Radio, WEEI’s The Big Show, as well as The NFL Networks HUGE Set. Too many shows and former all pros to list.

As I interviewed Arizona Cardinals All Pro Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald, Former All Pro Bills nose tackle Fred Smerlas, and Sporting News Radio/CBS Hoops Play by Play Tim Brando, the thing that struck me most, was how each one of them is still amazed with the enormity of all that happens during the Super Bowl week.

I was impressed mostly with how the media center is organized and set up.

The National Football League doesn’t miss a beat in all areas of running this center.

I also noticed the security checkpoints, the police officers everywhere, marked and unmarked, as well as the security cameras inside and outside of the Convention Center. Phoenix’s Finest are very noticable to all who enter the 4 square block radius near the Convention Center.

Media Row is nothing like I have ever seen. You can get mezmorized by all the radio booths and cameras that are on hand. All with the intent of capturing that one interview that will last them a lifetime.

Tune in for more as the week progresses. Tomorrow, the infamous Media Day at the University of Phoenix. Does anyone have a helicopter available to get me from Gilbert to Glendale??!!

Keep on throwing…
