ASU Practice 8-6 Alright Already! Morning SportsCenter Is Coming! We F#*@ING Know!
Aug 07

Relax!  Relax! It’s less than 24 hours and Jet fans are acting as though you have pulled off the greatest quarterback deal since landing Joe Namath from Alabama in 1965.

Deal: A conditional fourth-round pick in 2009, but the pick will escalate to a first rounder if Favre appears in 80% of the plays and the Jets (I’m laughing) make it to the Super Bowl.  The pick could be a second or third-rounder depending on Favre’s playing time and the Jets performance.  So basically a fourth rounder!!! Hahah!  Oh yah, and the Jets will pay him over $12 million!

It’s now even a bigger pressure cooker in New York for the Jets.  Favre’s arrival puts enormous pressure on Head Coach Eric Mangini.  Owner Woody Johnson assured Jet fans and Mangini that he will be back in 2009 regardless of the Jets’ record in 2008.

One of the main reasons they got Favre was not to get to the playoffs in 2008, but to sell PSL’s (Permanent Seat License) as they open a new stadium in 2010.  Favre will be the marketing piece and centerpiece as the Jets unveil their PSL plans.  Actually a smart move!

Let me remind you Jet fans a few things:

  •  4-12 2007 record
  • Opened 2007 1-7 with a lucky win vs. Pittsburgh
  • Jets will pay Favre $12.7 million, Pennington makes $8 million
  • Favre is nearly two years older than Mangini and four years older than offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer
  • Favre has only ran the Mike Holmgren type West Coast Offense
  • Baggage: His mind is not there, plus he is 38 years old (39 in October)!
  • NY media – he is a country boy from Mississippi and he has never seen this kind of media in Green Bay –it will be too overwhelming for him –he’ll break especially after 2-3 interceptions in a game
  • Flashback 2006: Threw 18 TD passes and 18 INTs and completed just 56% and the Packers were 8-8.
  • Jets are not the Packers: Pack in ‘07 had a solid offensive line, playmakers at wide receiver, a running game with Ryan Grant and a really good defense.
  • Still the Jets – Super Bowl Champion NY Giants will be the real home tenant at the Meadowlands
  • New England Patriots-Jets finished 12 games behind them last season -12 games!

Something positive for you Jet fans in regards to the possibly of Favre succeeding just a bit: $140 million! That is how much money the team spent in the offseason to improve this club.  They revamped the offensive line with the signings of LG Alan Faneca and RT Damien Woody.

I want to end this letter to you Jets fans to say, I love Brett Favre. He is one of my favorite quarterbacks of all time.  He has started 253 straight regular-season games since his first Packers start in 1992.  Amazing!  In that time, the Jets have started Browning Nagle, Boomer Esiason, Frank Reich, Ray Lucas, Rick Mirer, Chad Pennington, Vinny Testaverde, Bubby Brister, Kellen Clemens, Quincy Carter, Glenn Foley, Brooks Bollinger, Ken O’Brien and Jack Trudeau.

I think Brett Favre should have stayed home either in Mississippi or compete in Green Bay.  The Jets are not the right fit for Favre.  He will not be able pilot this bad Jet team.  If he runs out of gas, this will become much uglier than it has been over the last month.  This will be a disaster!  A really sad way to remember the end of Brett Favre!
