Well lets go to the way back machine, back when Randy was dominate and Shilling was dealing. The Diamondbacks had the most feared one two punch at the top of their pitching rotation. Well hello, it looks like the someone stacked the deck with two aces sharing the same suite. Brandon Webb was the Ace of Diamonds around these parts for a while, but now he has Haren leavin the Backs bolstering bullets at the top of the rotation. This season the two have been as good as Randy and Shilling were in 2001. The supporting cast around them is not as solid but, by rotation standards alone, The Diamondbacks are better than the team that won the series in 2001. Davis is a serviceable pitcher. Randy is a shell of his former self, but it turns out that the shell of a hall of fame pitcher can prove to be effective from time to time. There really is no 5th starter, but in the postseason the Backs are only going to run 4 pitchers at the most.
If the Back make the postseason, and that would be a big if considering the recent deal the dodgers made, we should be looking at a rotation of Webb-Haren-Davis and maybe Randy. A three man rotation of Webby, Danny, and Doug would give this team enough power to actually make a run. I am drinking the Sedona red kool-aid folks. Shocker, I know.
Webb and Haren now are as good as Johnson-Shilling in 2001, enough said. It may not show in the wins, but hell this team does not have the ball breaking bats that the champ Backs had.
