I had to post this off-the-wall blurb that I stole from our friend Rick Horrow, the Sports Professor, heard Wednesdays on our show…
The title of his piece in his weekly SportsDollar newsletter: The Hats and the Hat-Nots: A Coaching Challenge
Are you ready for some frivolity in football? Why is it that some coaches favor hats over visors – and never the twain headgear shall meet? Hat guys are never visor guys, and vice versa. And we can’t imagine Joe Paterno wearing anything on his 81- year-old head. But which headgear gives the winning edge?
We decided to keep a season-long tally of top college football coaches to see how our theory pans out that visors are the coaching chapeau of choice. (Theory: Visors block the glare and improve the vision while not constricting the brain.) Here are the results from the first two weeks, we’ll periodically keep you updated if and when we have nothing better to write about. So far it looks like the bare heads have it.
