Kurt Warner may not be the flash and dash QB of 2000 and 2001, but what is invaluable to the Cardinals offense, is how he is in total control when he takes the field.
Yesterdays victory over the 49′ers is a prime example. He took care of the football, got the team in and out of the huddle, audibled at the right time, hit the HOT receiver on the blitzes at the right time, did not force the ball into coverage, and most of all found Anquan Boldin in the second half.
Kurt has learned patience as an NFL QB, and knows, you don’t win the game in the first half.
Warners stats were very good, as he was 19 of 30, for 197 yards and one TD. Not real flashy, but very effective. He distributed the ball to 6 different receivers, which tells me, he is reading the entire field, and taking what the defense is giving him. He also hit some KEY 3rd down conversions in the second half, to keep that long 10 minute drive alive, which took the air, literally, out of the 49er’s defense.
He also hit Steve Breaston on a post-corner route, which set the tone early in the game, that the Cards, and specifically Kurt Warner, can throw the ball deep. That kept those sly defensive backs from cheating on the short routes.
I hope Matt Leinart is taking good notes and paying attention, on how Kurt Warner has become the entire package as an NFL QB…
